PSV and TenCate Grass work on the next generation of turf at the Herdgang Field Lab
By combining theory, technology and player feedback at training facility the Herdgang, PSV and TenCate Grass aim to continuously improve synthetic turf systems.
TenCate Grass strives to go beyond lab testing and integrate player testing and player feedback in their daily routine of designing turf systems. Our goal is to improve the understanding between the player and the surface. At the Herdgang from PSV Eindhoven, we installed a new test area, including the next generation of turf systems, on which we will test the most innovative synthetic turf systems with players and staff of the club.
Dr. Colin Young, Director R&D Turf System at TenCate Grass explains: “The Field Lab at the Herdgang of PSV is the perfect extension of our Centre for Turf Innovation. At the Field Lab, we are not just looking at simple norm tests or mechanical tests, but we are really focusing on the player, putting the player at the middle of all evaluation that we do. We are really pleased to be working with PSV Eindhoven as they are an innovative club that wants to learn about their players and football surfaces.
At the Field Lab at PSV, we have installed three different types of surfaces, with different types of shock pads, e-layers, fibres and infills. As we design for the future, we look at both the environmental as well as the performance aspects of these surfaces. The Field Lab is a flexible installation. Based on player feedback we are able to adjust the fields based on what we learn from the players and staff, to come up with new systems very quickly.”
